Recently widowed Hallie Wells is facing hard times. The sudden demise of her husband after selling their farm and just about everything they owned to travel west on the Oregon Trail, has left her stranded with an eight year old son. Dare she ask Cooper Jerome, recently returned from the War of the States, if he would put his life on hold for, say, five months, to drive her wagon; and that doesn't include his return trip. At this point, she's out of options.
Cooper Jerome's life has been anything but easy. Guilt from his part in the War of the States and failures from his life before the war, plague is conscience. When Mrs. Wells asks him to drive her oxen to Oregon, his first inclination is to decline. However, one look at her boy, who reminds him of another boy, pulls on his heart string until his only option is to help the widow make the several months crossing. Will the journey becomes his catalyst for change?
Rush Garrett is hired by his friends, Cooper and Hallie Jerome (book one), to find Hallie's sister, Lilah Parker, and persuade her to return to Oregon with him. The sisters parted ways twenty years earlier and Hallie longs to be reunited with her only sibling.
Lilah Parker yearns for her family, but in her infrequent letters to her sister, she has lied about her occupation. Her sister believes her to be a seamstress, when, in truth, she is a wealthy man's mistress. Lilah's shame and fear that she will be disowned by her loved ones causes her to reject the offer of Mr. Rush Garrett of an escort to Oregon. However, fate has other plans and plenty of adventure awaiting these less-than-likely lovers!
Tim Wells returns to Missouri to visit the farm of his youth one last time. He encounters Daisy Smithson, a girl from his childhood, in a most unexpected way when she pulls her shotgun on him!
Trent Garrett once loved and lost and he has no desire to repeat history. Fate, however, is about to change his calloused heart in the form of Arizona Cayson, a squatter on his land.
